This page is intended to show you the way to the Salesian Youth Centre
Don-Bosco-Club within Cologne (Köln). So just a preliminary
remark in case you plan to arrive in Cologne by train:
The German railway company "Deutsche Bahn" is offering
special group tickets for WYD participants.
There are some more informations about travelling on the
website of the WYD office.

By tram:
The tram (or street-car) line 4 will bring you in about 20 minutes
from the center close to the youth centre Don-Bosco-Club.
Leave the tram at Berliner Straße (in Mülheim) and go left
to the traffic lights at the second exit of the petrol station.
The small street on the right is the Tiefentalstraße where "Don Bosco weltweit"
will take place.
During WYD you will find signposts which show you the way.
Note: From the centre of Cologne you may take the tram line 4
(always in direction "Schlebusch") e.g. at
Appellhofplatz, Neumarkt (there it runs as underground line!) or
Köln-Arena, or you may use any of lines 13, 17, 18, 19 to go to
Wiener Platz and change there to line 4.
By foot:
From the center of Cologne you have to walk about 6 km (3 ½ miles).
There is nice way for pedestrians, bikers and skaters
on the left bank of the river; follow it downstream.
Pass under the Zoobrücke (a highway bridge). After a while you come
to the Mülheimer Brücke (a suspension bridge with four lanes);
use the northern footpath (sidewalk) of this bridge to cross the Rhine.
Turn left at the Wiener Platz (at the very end of the bridge) and
follow the large road (Clevischer Ring) to Hacketäuer Straße,
a small road on the right. At the end of that road you will find the youth
centre Don-Bosco-Club.
By train:
You may go from Köln Hauptbahnhof by underground tram lines 17, 18 or
19 and proceed as described above. If your train stops at Köln-Deutz
you may instead leave the train there, do a short walk to the tram stop
Deutz/Köln-Arena and take tram line 4 in direction "Schlebusch".
Especially for those coming from north there is a better possibility:
The S-Bahn 6 (a regional train) from Essen (Ruhr) to Köln (and back)
stops at the station Köln-Stammheim. At that station take the bus 151
in direction "Porz Markt"; after about 5 minutes it will arrive at the
tram stop "Berliner Straße" (see above).

A closer look at Mülheim: |
 |
By car:
Leave the Autobahn (highway) A3 at the exit (=Ausfahrt) "Köln-Mülheim".
Turn left (slightly, not a sharp turn!) at the traffic lights.
Now you are on the Clevischer Ring.
After a pedestrian crossing (protected by traffic lights) keep left
and then turn left into the Hacketäuerstraße (no
traffic lights at this junction!).Attention: It will be very hard to find
a parking place there!
|
By bus:
The way described above is to narrow for busses.
We have made an agreement with the LIDL supermarket in the Berliner Straße
which permits us to park some busses on their car park (on August 17th).
Arriving on Clevischer Ring from north (from the Autobahn) you cannot
turn left into Berliner Straße; in this case you should turn around
at the next junction (i.e. the junction with Keupstraße).
Coming from south (i.e. from Wiener Platz) on Clevischer Ringyou follow
the indications B 51
(federal road 51) which will make you turn right into Berliner Straße.
After 600 m you will see on your left a Shell petrol/gas station and then
after other 100 m you find on the right of the road the LIDL supermarket
with its car parking.
